Fewer unnecessary patient calls, shorter walking distances for nursing and hospitality staff, and more efficient cleaning and logistics processes: the new patient terminal at Kantonsspital Baden (KSB) delivers tangible improvements to everyday clinical operations.
Initial Situation
The solution was specifically designed for the new KSB hospital building, which opened in early 2025, and tailored to the realities of daily clinical practice. It focuses on the areas where day-to-day work takes place and where challenges for staff are most immediately felt.
Challenges
The bedside-mounted tablet opens up a wide range of possibilities. Patients can place hospitality service requests, access entertainment options, or directly contact nursing staff. After patient discharge, the same device supports the coordination of cleaning services and bed transportation. Nursing, hospitality, and facility management are brought together in a single digital tool, while patients benefit from a completely new and outstanding experience. A key requirement was an intuitive user interface that remains easy to use for elderly patients as well.
Solution
The new triDevice bedside terminal connects nursing, hospitality, cleaning, and logistics services through the central triApp platform. Patients can submit requests directly from their bedside, ranging from nurse calls and hospitality orders to requests for private consultations. For staff, this results in clearly structured workflows, shorter walking distances, and noticeable relief in their daily work.
With this solution, trifact implemented a modular platform that includes:
- Deployment of the triApp platform
- Integration of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) ERP system for patient admissions and discharges
- Direct and deep integration with the Ascom communication platform
- Display of available hospitality and nursing services
- Intelligent routing of qualified requests to the appropriate nursing and hospitality teams
- Integration of a digital logbook for bed transportation management
- Integration with ISS Facility Services for cleaning order management
Results
Through digitalization, KSB has significantly optimized its operational processes. The hospitality department recorded a 30% reduction in unqualified patient calls, while nursing staff were able to reduce their daily walking distances on each ward. Additional efficiency gains were achieved through improved collaboration with facility management services.
Outlook
The implemented platform provides the foundation for further digital applications and the continuous development of clinical processes.
