The Biel Hospital Center has digitized its patient appointment scheduling system. The goal was to provide reliable information while reducing the workload for nursing staff.
Background
In everyday hospital life, patients often have several appointments per day. Until now, these were communicated verbally or recorded in the patient’s room. Changes led to significant coordination efforts and increased communication needs.
At the same time, there was a desire to continue making effective use of existing systems and investments.
Challenges
Appointment information needed to be available directly at the patient’s bedside and integrate seamlessly into the existing system landscape. In particular, integration with the hospital information system was critical.
Solution
By connecting KISIM to triApp via an FHIR interface, appointments are displayed directly from the hospital information system at the patient’s bedside.
Patients receive an up-to-date and clear overview of their appointments. Changes are automatically updated without any additional effort on the part of the nursing staff.
Results
The digital appointment calendar provides transparency and helps streamline daily clinic operations.
- Patients are kept informed of their appointments at all times
- Scheduling conflicts are identified early on
- Nurses benefit from reduced communication effort
- Existing systems will be optimally integrated and continue to be used
